Kaiwomaru Park
Called the "Lady of the Sea," Kaiwomaru was a training vessel for a mercantile marine school. Now its beautiful shape can be viewed as it rests at its mooring in this charming, bay-side park. There are other facilities here, too.

Takaoka Kojo Park
This park was built on the remains of the castle built by Toshinaga Maeda in the Yedo period. With fully one-third of the park covered by the old moat, the park displays the natural beauty of each season. Within the park you will also find the Shimin Kaikan, a library, an art museum, zoo, and other facilities.

Takaoka-shi Manyo Rekishi-kan
This is the place to research the Manyo-syu and its period in history. It is full of information and documentary records. There are various display areas, and even computer controlled dolls that recreate life back in those days.

Takaoka Daibutsu
On a scale with the historic images of Buddha at Nara and Kamakura, this is one of the 3 great statues of Buddha in Japan. Loved by all the citizens, the statue is 16 meters tall and weighs 65 tons. It is the symbol of the traditional bronze-ware industry of Takaoka.

Zuiryuji Temple
Zuiryuji Temple was constructed by Maeda Toshitsune, 3rd lord of the Kaga domain during the Edo period (1600-1868) to pray to Buddha for the repose of Maeda Toshinaga, 2nd lord of the Kaga domain and founder of Takaoka. It is a famous temple of the Soto sect of Zen Buddhism, featuring its magnificent and elegant building structure. The temple's "San-mon" (main gate to the temple), "Butsuden" (Buddha hall) and "Hatto" (hall where daily services, important ceremonies and lectures are held) were designated as national treasures in 1997, the first structures of architectural style developed in the Edo period that received such designation.

Futagamiyama Manyo Line
Known for its view of the moon and autumn maples, the famous poet Otomo no Yakamochi was inspired to write many of his poems here. It is now a popular spot for driving, with sights such as the remains of Moriyama Castle, Busshari Pagoda, a museum of local history, and gardens. The view from the top is fantastic.

Himi Coastline
Called the Noto-Tateyama seaside line, this coastline is marked with fantastic rock formations, making it a popular place for a drive. The view of the Tateyama peaks over the horizon of the sea is a rarity worth seeing.

Himi City Seaside Botanical Garden ("Aroma Garden")
Known commonly as "Aroma Garden", Himi City Seaside Botanical Garden features various kinds of tropical and subtropical seaside plants grown in one place, including a manmade forest of mangroves. The garden has a four-story building housing various attractive facilities such as an exhibition hall and a workshop. On the fourth floor there is a glass sky lounge, commanding a beautiful view of the "Tateyama-renpo" mountain range. The garden is also furnished with a seaside promenade leading to "Matsudae-no-nagahama", a beach chosen as one of "Japan's 100 Best Beaches".

Himi Fisherman's Wharf Marine Products Center
As a very appropriate facility to be in Himi, a town of fish, this marine products center offers a place where you can see, buy and eat "kito-kito" (meaning "fresh" in Toyama's local dialect) marine products from the Sea of Japan. Located at the Himi fishing port, which commands a magnificent view of "Tateyama-renpo" (the mountain range forming the northwestern part of the Northern Alps) across Toyama Bay, the center also offers information about this area including information about its traffic and tourism.
